Oil Change on a Honda

To keep your vehicle running smoothly on the roads of San Pablo and Berkeley, routine maintenance is an absolute must. If you drive a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, like the Hyundai Elantra, it will require an oil change every 7,500 – 10,000 miles. Before your next Hyundai Elantra oil change, you may be wondering about the Hyundai Elantra recommended oil type. We can help. Read on to find out more about the recommended Hyundai Elantra oil type and how to perform a DIY oil change.

Hyundai Elantra Recommended Oil

When your vehicle is due for a Hyundai Elantra oil change, should you use conventional oil or synthetic oil? Conventional oil is the more affordable option, but synthetic oil has enhanced properties that help it perform better and last longer.

When it comes to the Hyundai Elantra recommended oil type, you can choose either of these grades in conventional or synthetic oil:

  • 5W-20
  • 5W-30

How to Change Hyundai Elantra Oil

Many El Cerrito drivers choose to leave routine oil changes to the professionals at Hanlees Hilltop Hyundai. However, if you’re the DIY type, you may prefer an at-home oil change. Once you have the correct Hyundai Elantra oil type and oil filter, simply follow the steps below.

  1. Use car jacks or steel ramps to elevate your vehicle.
  2. Secure your Elantra with jack stands or wheel blocks.
  3. Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of your oil pan underneath your engine.
  4. Place an oil basin or a large tub right under the oil drain plug. Unscrew the oil drain plug and allow the old oil to drain out completely. Keep in mind that this could take as long as 15 minutes.
  5. Locate your oil filter and move the oil basin or tub underneath it.
  6. Take out the old filter with an oil filter wrench.
  7. Take the new filter and rub a bit of the new car oil around the rubber seal. Do not skip this step!
  8. Put the new filter in place and tighten it by hand. Further, tighten it with the oil filter wrench.
  9. Remove the cap to the oil well. Pour in the specified amount of new oil.
  10. Put the cap back in place.
  11. Use the dipstick to check the oil level. If you have enough oil, you’re all done!
